  8. IP.Board Security Enhancements We are releasing three minor security updates to address issues recently reported regarding areas of IP.Board 2.3.1. These security issues are rather low priority and require specific sets of circumstances to be utilized. Even then the impact is minimal due to other security features in the software. Issue 1 (Reported by http://www.turkish-media.com/forum/ ) If you use a character set other than iso-8859-1 or utf-8, it is possible to submit javascript to your user profile fields. The potential damage is mitigated by the use of httpOnly cookies in IP.Board. Please note that IP.Board ships with iso-8859-1 set by default. Therefore, unless you have specifically changed the character set in the Admin CP your installation is not impacted by this issue. Issue 2 (Reported by http://www.criticalsecurity.net/ ) A user is able to upload a non-image file if the file is given an image name in a specific format. The security implications are very low because IP.Board automatically resets the file to a .txt file and treats it as such, however this could result in broken photo or avatar images being displayed, and script files with a .txt extension saved in your uploads directory. Again the potential damage is mitigated by the use of httpOnly cookies in IP.Board thereby disallowing javascript access to cookies. Issue 3 (Reported by http://communityseo.com/forums/ ) If you have subscription packages enabled on your site using the subscriptions manager included with IP.Board which promote a paying user to a new user group, it is possible to recraft a payment form to set the member's ID to a different member. The issue would require that an actual valid payment is made and no unauthorized access could be gained, however a specially crafted form could result in all administrators/moderators of a site being demoted to a subscriber group, for example. The reverse, a user being promoted to admin, is not possible in this issue. Patching Your IP.Board The IP.Board 2.3.1 download in the client area has already been updated with the required changes. If you download IP.Board after the date of this announcement your installation will be up to date. Changed Files Download the zip file below which includes only the changed files for this update. Simply upload and overwrite the old files. http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...e=post&id=11869 Manual Instructions The following file contains manual patch instructions for those who want to edit php files by hand. http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...e=post&id=11870 Quelle: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=237075

  20. New Default Skin for IPS Community Products Now Available We are pleased to be able to reveal the new default skin for all IPS community products. This new skin will be offered as an alternative to the classic blue skin currently available. Both the classic blue and this new skin will both still be available. The new default skin was designed with ease of modification in mind. There are no gradients and the CSS is much more simplified thereby allowing for easier modification and matching your web site. The new skin also takes a much cleaner approach to displaying your conversation which is, after all, what everyone uses their communities for. We invite you to look around and let us know if there are any errors in the new skin you might come across. Of course the new skin will not be for everyone and that is why we will be offering both as an option. In the coming weeks expect more information on the next series of software updates for our products. Thank you for your continued interest and business! 21. IP.Board 2.2.x Possible XSS Issue It has come to our attention that IP.Board 2.2.x may be vulnerable to an XSS (cross-site scripting) attack by injecting Javascript into supplementary files used by our rich text editor. It should be noted that this damage is mitigated by the "HttpOnly" cookies which were introduced into IP.Board 2.2.0. This means that sensitive cookies in IP.Board 2.2.0 and higher cannot be read by Javascript which could be crafted using this issue. This update is very simple and straightforward and only affects these supplementary files. The attached zip file contains all the required files. Simply upload them over the existing files on your server. Quelle: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=235069
  22. Possible XSS Issue Addressed in IP.Board It has come to our attention that a bug in Internet Explorer 6 and 7 can allow an XSS (cross-site scripting) attack by forcing uploaded image and PDF files to run as HTML which could allow an attack to run code through a user's browser. It should be noted that the XSS damage is significantly mitigated by the "HttpOnly" cookies which were introduced in IP.Board 2.2.0. This means that sensitive cookies in IP.Board 2.2.0 and higher cannot be read by Javascript which could be crafted using this bug. Although this is a significant flaw within Internet Explorer, we have made a work around to resolve this issue by scanning uploaded files for possible malicious code. If a file is found to contain code that should not exist, such as HTML or Javascript in an image file, the upload will be denied. The download packages for IP.Board as of this date have been updated to include the patch. To patch an existing installation of IP.Board 2.1.x or 2.2.x, download the appropriate patch file: Version 2.1.x: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...e=post&id=11582 Version 2.2.x: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...e=post&id=11583 Simply upload the class_upload.php file for your appropriate version into the ips_kernel directory overwriting the existing file. 23. Welcome to IP.Board 2.3.0 Testing We have applied IP.Board 2.3.0 to our company forums to begin testing the system under load. This new version of IP.Board contains: New URL skin mapping - ability to apply a skin based on the URL a visitor is viewing Bug Fixes Performance Enhancements Changes to better integrate with IP.Converge The key focus on IP.Board 2.3.0 is performance improvement and of course we take advantage of every release to fix minor bugs discovered since the last release. As most changes to the software are at a lower level, IP.Board 2.2 series skins will work on 2.3.0 without having to revert your skin templates. There are some bug fixes in some skin areas but unless you are experiencing problems there is no need to revert your skin templates. More details on what has changed in the skins and a complete list of fixed bugs will be available at release time. We expect most third-party modifications that worked on the 2.2 series will work with little if any changes in 2.3.0 version. As per our usual release process, we will test IP.Board 2.3.0 here on our company forums until all upgrade issues are resolved, our beta testing group reports in, and our staff is comfortable with a public release. We expect this process to last one to two weeks. More updates forthcoming. Thank you for your feedback. Note: Please clear your browser cache if you experience any Javascript issues. 24. Invision Power Servcies is now using IP.Converge IP.Converge allows a single authentication to be used across the forums as well as the client area, therefore providing easy access to all our client areas. The customer client area will be available via Converge tomorrow. Please be reminded that the IP.Converge application requires the user's email address as the login method. If you are having problems logging out please either try from Converge or use the delete cookies set by this board link. Quelle: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=233837
  25. We will be switching the IPS Company Forums from username to email login on March 22, 2007. We are preparing to apply IP.Converge to the company forums, customer database on IP.Nexus, and other areas that are forthcoming. The IP.Converge application requires email as the login method so we are going to apply this change a few days early to allow everyone to get used to the change. Also, please take a moment to be sure your IPS customer account login and forum account login are using the same email address. Although not strictly needed, it will allow the merging of your accounts in the coming days to be much easier. This is the first step in the introduction of some new products and services we are in the final stages or completing. Keep an eye on the IPS blog over the next week for updates and information.
